Science, innovation, and entrepreneurship joined forces yesterday in Madrid.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of opening the course “The Doctorate Beyond Academia: A Gateway to Innovation and Entrepreneurship” alongside José Moisés Martín Carretero. The event was held at the Salón de Grados of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid’s Puerta de Toledo Campus.
This workshop was organized by the Young Academy of Spain and CDTI Innovation to show our doctoral students and PhDs that the research path can open doors far beyond the university walls.
We inaugurated the session with José Moisés Martín Carretero, Director of CDTI, and featured exceptional speakers such as Marc Güell (ICREA, UPF) and Daniel Garcia Gonzalez (UC3M, 60Nd), who shared the intrinsic value of a PhD and real-world examples of university-led entrepreneurship.
During the round table “PhDs in the Business World,” moderated by Juan Antonio Mayoral and Andres Castellanos-Gomez, we listened to the experiences of Natalia Artigas Robles (Integra Therapeutics), Beatriz Sanz (Beonchip), and Maria Lopez Valdes, PhD (Bitbrain).
We concluded with the panel “Training and Skills for Innovation and Entrepreneurship,” moderated by Iria da Cunha Fanego, featuring Pilar Gonzalez Gotor (CDTI), Simeon Nikolaev Vladimirov, Félix Juan Zamora Abanades (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), and Patricia Sierra (monodon).
Over 400 registrants. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible and to those who joined us throughout the event.
Special thanks to CDTI Innovation, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, the Engineering Research Institute of Aragon, the University of Zaragoza, and the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities for their support.
